The moated castle of Werdringen is idyllically located in the Ruhr Valley, surrounded by a nature reserve. In the 13th century, the aristocratic residence was mentioned for the first time. Over the centuries, the fortified tower castle was owned by several lower noble families such as the Lords of Dobbe and von der Recke. In the late Middle Ages, it was expanded into a moated castle. After another construction phase in the 19th century, the complex came into the possession of the city of Hagen in 1977. Today, the moated castle is used as a museum and event venue.
The exhibition shows the oldest fossils in the region, at around 450 million years old. A special object is the giant dragonfly from Vorhhalle, which is about 320 million years old. The life-size reconstruction of a mammoth welcomes visitors right at the beginning and accompanies them through the entire exhibition. The archaeological finds range from stone tools of the Neanderthals to the famous remains of the oldest modern man from the Blätterhöhle. On the top floor, the journey through time continues with the Bronze Age, where the three replicas of the bronze swords from the Kaisberg are on display. Ceramic and iron finds give an insight into the Middle Ages and at the same time form the conclusion of the permanent exhibition.

At each of our children's birthday parties, the museum is discovered in a playful way through a short guided tour. Workshops deepen the knowledge they have learned and also create a souvenir of a great children's birthday party. In between, the children can fortify themselves during a 20-30 minute break and unwrap the presents.
Food, drinks and crockery must be brought along. The room and the decoration are provided by the museum and are included in the price.
