Since the Middle Ages, Ewer barges were the main means of transport between the Elbe marshes and the Port of Hamburg. Strawberries, for example – the “Vierlande gold” – were taken to market on Ewers to be sold. The rise of motor ships and lorries led to the disappearance of these picturesque sailing boats. The birthday party sets off on a journey through time and builds its own wooden Ewer, which can sail in the stream on warm days and in a water tub on cooler ones.
